Why concrete producers need EPDs

Concrete accounts for ~8% of global CO₂ emissions. EPDs unlock Buy Clean compliance, LEED v4.1 credits, and specifier preference in an increasingly carbon-aware market.

Buy Clean compliance

California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and the Federal GSA now require EPDs for public procurement. Without one, you can't bid on these projects.

LEED v4.1 credit

Material Ingredient Reporting credits require manufacturer EPDs. Architects specifying green buildings increasingly mandate them.

Specifier preference

Major construction firms are implementing embodied carbon targets. An EPD showing a low GWP is a competitive differentiator.

Key insight

Cement content and SCM substitution rate are the single largest levers — a 40% slag replacement can halve embodied carbon.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a certified concrete EPD?

Use the calculator above to check your GWP instantly — no account needed. For a full certified EPD document, contact us to discuss your requirements. An EPD gives you an ISO 14025-aligned PDF you can submit to project owners for Buy Clean compliance.

What is the NRMCA industry average GWP for concrete?

The NRMCA Industry-Wide EPD (2023) reports an average of approximately 270 kg CO₂-eq/m³ for ready-mixed concrete, with a range of roughly 180–380 kg CO₂-eq/m³ depending on mix design and cement content. High SCM replacement mixes can fall below 180.

Does my concrete pass Buy Clean California?

California AB 2446 sets a limit of 350 kg CO₂-eq/m³ for concrete used in state-funded public works. Enter your mix above and the Buy Clean panel will tell you instantly whether you pass for CA, CO, Federal, WA, OR, and other active jurisdictions.

What data do I need to generate a full EPD?

You need a mix design or batch ticket with material quantities (cement, SCMs, aggregates, water, admixtures) and ideally plant energy consumption. If you have a BOM in any format — PDF, Excel, CSV, or even plain text — the AI can extract it automatically.
